The Explosion of Internet Opportunities

Welcome to this site – you’ll find it is almost a compendium of all Internet or Home PC based ‘Work-at-home’ Jobs that you can possibly imagine on date. However, Indian users are frankly going to find this more dear to them, as the sites chosen as practical examples of both clean and not-so-clean or ‘scam’ sites are mostly based in India or meant mainly for them.

Sisters and brothers of India, starting now, this series is for you if you are still uninitiated to the business opportunities of your home computer when connected to the Internet! ‘Globalisation’ has reached our shores and spreading fast! In a country where millions still starve in fields and factories, it is little consolation to be told that your Corporate fellow citizens are riding the ‘global’ wave to catapult India to a rare GDP growth rate of more than 9%, and corporate India is acquiring ‘phoren’ companies through skillful take-over negotiations instead of being taken over by foreign multinationals for decades. It is no comfort for even the average middle class salary earners that your country is now one of the most sought-after destinations of international capital (‘Foreign Direct Inflow’ or ‘FDI’, and ‘Foreign Institutional Investment’ or ‘FII’ in economic jargon) and one of the most preferred markets of mostly luxury consumer goods to satisfy the hunger of the rising high income professionals and IIT-IIM-IT branded corporate executives frantically sought by the modern Indian ‘multinationals’ to ride the ‘global’ bandwagon.

However, have you realized that you too can target some of the spoils of the new technology, the new ‘global’ market and the increasing ‘Business Process Outsourcing’ (BPO) to India by foreign multinationals to India because of her growing IT and other technological knowledge base, coupled with lower labour costs? While we can continue to voice our discontent on the discriminatory percolation of the benefits of ‘globalisation’ to the poorer sections in the developing world, why not also intelligently corner some of the pie? Why not also exploit their frantic marketing, advertising and ‘data processing’ needs, and the lust of the growing rich for greater and faster information on products and services in their urge towards consumerism?
How You Can Cash In

Let us accept that at least the tools or means for such exploitation are now readily available at a reasonable cost – the growing computer awareness and basic familiarity with Internet browsing or ‘surfing’ knowledge, along with basic user-friendly computer applications like ‘MS Word’ and ‘MS Excel’, and even easy Website building software! Computer hardware costs are also falling and are now within reach of the middle income groups. Those who cannot afford this can also access these services at about Rs. 10/- to as low as Rs. 5/- per hour at Internet browsing centres or ‘Cybercafes’ which are mushrooming everywhere and are probably available in your own neighbouring locality in urban centres. Having come upto this, let us see how your own home (or neighbourhood ‘Cybercafe’) Personal Computer (‘PC’ for short henceforth), coupled with basic computer and Internet knowledge, can generate additional household income for the unemployed, student, retired salary earner and even housewife (in the West she is now dignified as ‘homeworker’, because she contributes no less to hidden earnings by saving costs of hiring external labour for daily household chores). The opportunities arise because the exponentially increasing volume of work involved in marketing, advertising, and creating and maintaining database to serve the growing needs of the ‘global’ marketplace requires huge manpower, even beyond the capability of individual BPO companies specialized in providing or taking care of such services for other companies. Therefore, either these BPO companies themselves, or the source companies in need of such services, are reaching out to individuals with access to a PC and Internet connection to serve as their workers from home. Due to the huge number of such companies wanting to outsource some of their supporting activities to individual workers on the ‘Internet’, companies or organizations have sprung up to specialize in distributing work outsourced to them to individuals who can do part of the job using only their home computer and communicating with the work-providing BPO through the Internet, i.e, by E-Mails or specified areas to be accessed on the provider’s own or other ‘free classified’ Websites. The provider stipulates the nature and specifications of the jobs as well as payment details, send them to individuals who register with them through their sites on the Internet, and collect the finished jobs from the individual workers again through the Internet. Sometimes the work provider simply collects information on source companies in need of outsourcing, creating ‘Directories’ of these companies and sharing this information with people like you and me through their Websites, and charge what they call a ‘one-time’ fee just to enable you to approach these companies on their Websites, without taking any responsibility themselves for paying you on behalf of these companies!

The Procedure of Home Internet Job Registration

You have to first register with a job provider by going to their specified Website, clicking the appropriate button like ‘Register’ or ‘Apply’, and filling up your personal data like Name, Address, etc. in a form which opens on your computer screen when you click the correct button. Once you have filled up the form, another button like ‘Submit’ or ‘Continue’ will need to be clicked to open up another page specifying several options to pay your initial registration fee to the job provider - your Credit Card, bank draft, etc. In case you pay by Bank Draft, you have to send a copy of the registration form (so you have to first take out a printout of the registration/application form before clicking the ‘Submit’, ‘Continue’, ‘register’ or ‘apply’ button to go to the next stage of payment) along with Draft to the specified postal address. However, most job providers prefer to remain postally anonymous (often for nefarious reasons) and require you to pay electronically by authorizing them to charge the fees to your ‘credit card’. For international companies, the most preferred modes of payment are through ‘Paypal, ‘egold’, ‘alertpay’ and similar other internationally accepted ‘fund transfer’ agencies - some may be Credit cards, while some may merely make transactions through your Indian credit card or Indian bank A/C, provided you already have ‘online’ transaction arrangements with your Credit Card issuer or bank. So you need to first open an account with any of these agencies – Paypal is the one which is most universally accepted. For this, you need to open the ‘Paypal’ website (www.paypal.com), and follow the instructions there for registering with them; you will need to give them an E-Mail Address you use, and this is going to be the Account no. or Account ID which the various job providers will ask you online when you fill up the form to register with them on their Websites. You also need to fill up the 3-digit TPIN No. at the back of your credit card, so that ‘Paypal’ can verify your Credit Card with the said TPIN No. – they won’t ask you for the actual 16-digit Card No.

Once the above procedure is complied with, your work will begin to come to you on the Internet at the E-Mail Address you specified while filling up the registration Form (some still use the old-fashioned method of sending input materials and collecting the output by CDs) about 24-48 hours from the date the job provider gets your Draft or online payment. The registration fee may vary from Rs. 500/- to as much as Rs. 6,000/- depending on the type of job applied for – the higher the payment promised, the higher the fees. But remember, so also is the work volume, if not complexity. 90% of the ‘Get rich quick with only 30 mins…..2 hrs. on the Internet’ schemes screaming at you in attractive language from beautifully designed Websites are scams which simply devour your fees and then fail to provide work or to pay, on one pretext or another.
Different Types of Home Jobs

I would now like to share the results of fairly detailed research on all sorts of home business with you, incorporating my own experiences, giving you as detailed, simple and extensive an explanation on each separate category of opportunities as possible – right here, you don’t need to wait for a follow-up Mail! Just turn the pages!

I. The most simple opportunities: ‘Data Entry’, ‘Data Conversion’, ‘Form Filling’, ‘Report Creation’

‘Data Entry’ and ‘Data Conversion’ cover the broad gamut of accessing data from what we call ‘.doc’ and ‘jpeg’ or ‘image’ files and converting them to data arranged in another format. The data will be available to you over the Internet in the following manner:

v Typed on E-Mails
v Attached to E-Mails
v Seen by clicking specified areas of specified Websites

These jobs can be classified into 2 main categories: ‘Typing’ and ‘Form Filling’. The source data are sent by the job provider in 2 different forms – as ‘.doc’ files or as ‘jpeg’ files. Data on ‘.doc’ files can be copied and pasted. Such files are sent when the matter or content is to be and merely segregated or selected and arranged in specified columns and rows in a specified MS Word or MS Excel format. We call them simple ‘form filing’ jobs. ‘Global Info Service’, with website www.365jobs4u.com, is the best advertised provider (though now apparently not free from the ‘scam’ label) of such job conversion from ‘doc.’ or ‘MS Word’ files to Excel files maintained as per specified format or arrangement of fields (columns) – specified data have to be transferred from the MS Word files sent vide E-Mail to the specified fields of the Excel Sheet, devoting different rows for different Word files. Data may be on details of ads posted by different persons in different classified websites (as in case of ‘Global Info Service’), payroll data, etc.

Typing jobs are sent to the registered user typically as ‘jpeg’ files. These days, Health Care Centres, Health Researchers and doctors in USA and other advanced countries are in great need of updated medical information, which they also need to modify suitably for their own use. Such information are simply ‘scanned’ from medical journals and stored in computers as images, in the form of ‘jpeg’ files; ‘scanning’ is essentially a photographing or photocopying process, and hence the content has to be typed in MS Word to enable the user to modify it. Such scanned ‘images’ in ‘jpeg’ files are sent to the workers for typing and sending back to the BPO work provider, and payment terms and amount depend on the accuracy level measured in terms of spelling, punctuation, formatting and other mistakes while typing. Usually, no payment is available for less than 96% accuracy – the payment by Indian companies vary from Rs. 5–20 per page, depending on work volume and accuracy; 300-900 pages per working month of 26-28 days is the normal pattern.

However, our extensive search reveals that none of these ‘typing’ or ‘data conversion’ jobs are allocated to individuals free of cost by Indian BPOs. One may apply to foreign companies – mostly US-based - free of one-time or registration cost, but they require certain office equipments to be maintained by the worker besides a PC and Internet connection, like Fax and telephone connection with ISD facility. Besides, the volume and time limits for the work they allot are almost beyond the scope of single individuals. A lot of work or other communications related to the work may be routed through Fax or telephone. Although the phone communications are promised o be made over toll-free numbers, Fax and phone are rather inconvenient media these days, compared to the Internet. Besides, most of these direct ‘free registration’ with foreign work providers are restricted to US, Canadian or UK residents, and some for European countries – despite the much-trumpeted rapid growth of the Indian market potential.
What skills or knowledge are required

Very little, other than Internet surfing, basic ‘MS Word’ and ‘MS Excel’. There are a no. of Indian BPOs who provide ‘typing’ or ‘form filling’ jobs, and all they require is a PC with Internet connection to send and receive work. The most organized and large-scale Indian BPO appears to be ‘Global Info Service’ (www. 365jobs4u.com) based at Ahemdabad, with a London office. Besides ‘typing’ they offer ‘form filling’ and a variety of other jobs we will talk about later. However, the forms are to be filled up ‘online’, i.e, accessing the forms right from their Website by using your registered member ‘Username’ and ‘Password’. ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ are codes made of alphanumeric characters, i.e, using the letters of the alphabet and the 9 digits 1 – 9 - ‘punctuation marks’ are also allowed to certain extent in some cases Some sites permit use of other characters like ‘underscore’ (_) or ‘hyphen’ ( - ). You may have to be ready to fill up such ‘username’ and ‘password’ right when you register at the BPO’s website, or they may ask you to do it later by sending a confirmatory E-Mail, or they may allot them for you, as ‘Global Info Service’ does. This BPO has been on the scene for years, and have a separate ‘Report Creator’ job similar to the online ‘form filling’ job. Their ‘form filling’ job consists of filling up 1-page forms similar to the forms you fill up when registering for an E-Maill Address or applying for jobs, and the work is made easier by supplying you with a software you have to download, which allows you to automatically fill up common standardized details repeated in successive forms, like your name, address, etc., leaving you to fill up only that part of each form which is specific to each form; the software is provided at no extra cost. This allows filling up each form within about 1 min. You have to fill up at least 1000 forms a month, while the maximum you can access and fill up depends on the Plan you choose while registering and paying – higher the payment you desire, higher the registration fee, and higher the payment per form filled up – as much as Rs. 8/- per form if you pay Rs. 4000 as fees, with maximum potential earning of Rs. 48,000 per month! The ‘Report Creator’ job however involves opening E-Mails sent by ‘Global Info’ every day by connecting their server to your PC, and transferring specified data there to MS Excel or MS Word tabular format, containing 5 – 8 columns. The minimum and maximum stipulations and corresponding fees and earning potential are even higher than the ‘form filling’ job – the maximum being more than Rs. 65,000 per month, provided you can fill up about 400-450 rows of the specified MS Excel Table per month, each row containing 5 columns, per day!

However, these are about 6-month old data on ‘Global Info’, and you may check the latest offerings and plans from their website – www.365jobs4u.com

The nature of ‘form filling’ work offered earlier by ‘Global Info Service’ used to be called ‘Report Creator’ job on their site, and an idea of this job could be perceived by clicking the ‘Report Creator’ menu or button otheir site, then clickin the ‘Demo’ option. The job was titled ‘Report Creator’ because the data to be filled in various columns of a Table in either MS Word or Excel format, used to be a summarized ‘report’ of Ads posted on various Websites – the date posted, website address where posted, etc (This is a separate type of job – more on it later). The no. of forms to be filled up was considerable – typically 100-200 per day, each form consisting of minimum 5 columns. Of course, here you often enjoy the convenience of simply copying the data to be entered in the different ‘fields’ or columns from the E-Mails sent to you and then pasting them into your MS Word or Excel cells; you can simultaneously view and work on both the E-Mails and the Table where you have to enter the data, by splitting your computer screen horizontally into 2 halves and then opening the 2 different Applications in the 2 halves (Open any application first, then right click on the horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen, then click on “Tile windows horizontally”).

However, now the job appears to have changed to converting photo or scanned images accessed by logging in to the site’s ‘members area’ to typed paragraphs. Moreover, now ;form filling’ jobs offered by various sites or ‘work-at-home’ job providers turns out to be nothing but ‘Ad Posting’, on which we will discuss later.

‘Proof Reading’

‘Proof Reading’ is another type of ‘data entry’ job, where you have to compare the text already typed by some other jobber in MS Word format with the ‘jpeg‘ image of the original text from which the typing was done by another jobber, and then correct spelling or other mistakes, as specified. Here also, the original ‘jpeg’ image and typed MS Word text will need to be displayed simultaneously by splitting the computer screen into 2 halves, so that you can view them simultaneously and apply corrections on the typed ‘Word’ file. However, again, the workload does not allow casual 1-2 hr. application each day. By way of example, here is what ‘Achariya Infotech’ spells out on this type of job:

The work will be in two packages:

(a) 5 MB Package per month (full-time workers only): 1st 1 MB work to be done in 7 days, next 3 MB in another 21 days, and total 5 MB in 35 days
(b) 3 MB Package per month (full-time workers only): 1st 1 MB work to be done in 10 days, next 1 MB in another 10 days, and total 3 MB in 30 days

Payment according to ‘accuracy %’:
Accuracy (%) Payment per MB (Rs.)_________
99 – 100 3,000
98 2,000
97 1,000
96 500
95 250
92 – 94 To be reworked – only one-time opportunity
< 92 No pay and no further work

Accuracy will be counted in terms of spelling, numeric, punctuation, and small/capital letter mistakes, as well as missed words, lines and paragraphs. The formula applied would be:

(No. of mistakes) X 100
No. of total characters in work

‘Accuracy Report’ showing how it was worked out would be provided to the jobber

Apart from ‘365jobs4U’, you will also find many opportunities in the ‘Kijiji’ classified Ads, further categorized as ‘Kijiji Mumbai’, Kijiji Chennai’, etc. Most of the Data Entry/Conversion Jobs advertised through ‘Kijiji’ are bulk jobs, which may not be within the capacity of a single individual or a single computer. Perhaps you can form your own group of friends and then undertake the jobs.

One-time fee charged for a yearly contract: Rs. 6,000

This BPO also offers typing job at the same fee, paying from Rs. 12/- per 1,000 characters for 99 – 100 % accuracy to Rs.2/- per 1,000 characters for 95% accuracy

How Reliable are these Jobs?

From the regular publication of payees’ lists released every month on specified dates in their website, ‘Global Info Service’ appears to be a genuine work-at-home jobs provider though they charge quite hefty one-time registration fees! The additional reason is that they operate from a publicized physically existing office address; most scamsters only publicise a Mobile No., without disclosing any postal address – probably don’t have one!

www.zenithinfoonline.com, ‘Acharya Infotech’ - www.achariyainfotech. co.cc, and ‘Unitech Info Service’ - www.payformoney.com - are other recent additions to the Indian BPO list with proper office address, and one has to register with them by filling up certain forms with personal details, then pay anything from Rs. 500–6,000; higher the monthly income desired, higher the registration fee. The available typing jobs currently go for Rs. 15,000 – 25,000/- earning per month, while form-filing and ‘Report Creator’ earnings from ‘Global Info Service’ are claimed to bring potential earnings of even over Rs. 65,000/- p.m., depending on work volume opted for and accuracy level maintained. But let me sound a note of caution – the work volume for typing jobs even for modest earnings appears tough to achieve, unless you have a typing speed of at least 30-35 words per minute. ‘Global Info Service’ (Website ‘365jobs4u’), based at Ahmedabad, typically requires typing 20 pages a day, each page consisting of about 25 lines x 10-12 words per line, many of them being unfamiliar medical terms which have to be spelt out exactly! ‘Zenith’ is based in Mumbai, ‘Acharya Infotech’ at Kerala, and ‘Unitech Info’ at Siliguri in W. Bengal. The last site actually provides ‘ad posting’ jobs, which may be called a variety of ‘form filling’ job, because you have to register at each classified free ad posting site by filling up forms (though subsequent postings can be done simply by ‘Login’ through your own ‘Username’ and ‘password’

Sadly, complaints have been multiplying of late to indicate that even ‘Global Info’ may be a scam site which takes your money and then your hard work, but terminates your account on one pretext or another, or simply does not respond to your reminders, when it comes to payment time. One suspects that they are paying some people some of the time but not all people all the time for a genuine work done, i.e, utilizing the registration fee of Peter to pay Paul

Now, how to avoid scams, i.e, job providers who digest your registration fee, get the work done from you, then refuse to pay on grounds of ‘accuracy’, ‘minimum output level not reached’, etc.? One good way is to open ‘www.google.com’, ‘www.yahoo.com’ or any other popular Website which allows ‘searching’ (that is why these sites are famous as ‘Search Engines’), type the words ‘Scam Free Online Data Entry Jobs’ in their ‘Search’ box, and then click ‘Search’. You can then find a lot of feedback on both scam-infected and scam-free Data Entry providers, but most of them are foreign (mainly US)-based, and you will need to open a ‘Paypal’, ‘E-Gold’ or other Account run by US fund managers, through whom payments are made into your own Indian Bank A/c – read up the necessary information on opening and transacting through such Accounts on their websites (Ex: www.paypal.com)

Here’s a good site which provides more than 14,000 ‘Rip-off Reports’ on scams promising genuine work-at-home jobs:
http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q1=ALL&q2=&q3=&q4=&q5=&q6=work+at+home&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search%21
You can even register at this site and then file your own ‘report’ or complaint on any work-at-home scam which affected you. However, this site reports mainly the scams of the Western world

Here’s a few ther sites which give good evaluation on different types of ‘work-at-home’ jobs, if you also visit its different links:

http://www.earnparttimejobs.com/index.php?id=51685
http://www.offlinetypistjobs.com

Both the above sites basically offer ‘ad posting’ and ‘typing’ jobs. We will speak on ‘Ad Posting’ in a Post down the line (that means the posting was done earlier, to keep it down the line)

And here’s an URL (you can get many more by ‘Google Search’ for ‘Data Entry’ or ‘Work-at-Home’ Jobs) which I personally found rich with a no. of ‘Work-at-Home’ Jobs:

Affiliate marketing

This is not the right piece of cake for a beginner in computer-based home earning, but you need to understand the basics before we can proceed to other avenues – if only to recognize the possible pitfalls and avoid the lure of so many Websites who scream out the overnight ‘rags to riches’ potential of joining them as an ‘affiliate’ for promoting this or that ‘wonderful’ product or service, of course at a ‘one-time’ fee which may be hard to recover!

You have already seen that the modern explosion of Internet Job opportunities is driven by the spread of ‘globalisation’. The essence of this is that the whole world is becoming an integrated marketplace for producers, sellers, intermediaries and buyers across national boundaries. Now how do you think buyers and sellers can exchange information on such a massive scale? Advertisements through the normal media channels like Newspapers, magazines, TV and radio are no longer able to take care of the communication needs.

Here is where the ‘Internet revolution’ has stepped in as a phenomenal media tool, thanks to ever new innovations in Internet communication. Say, you want to see all offers on all varieties and brands of ‘leather shoes’. All you need to do is open any of the ‘Search Engine’ Websites like ‘www.google.com’, ‘www.yahoo.com’ or ‘www.msn.com’ type ‘leather shoes’ in the box marked ‘Search’ in the website screen or window, and click ‘Google Search’ or ‘Web Search’ or whatever ‘search’ medium is indicated. Lo and behold, a whole host of Websites dealing with ‘leather shoes’ will be displayed on the screen, which you just need to click to open one by one and fill your heart with all savoury details on your subject!

Some Websites have by now become hallmarks for gathering market information and even completing ‘online’ buy-and-sell transactions on all kinds of products and services, displayed after grouping into categories and subcategories (Category ‘shoes’, sub-category ‘leather shoes’, say). You simply click the button or box for the required category or sub-category, to display a phenomenal range of products or services to choose from. Examples are ‘Commission Junction’ (CJ), ‘Clickbank’, ‘E-bay’, etc. The sellers advertised on these sites would, however, like to spread their publicity net to a wide variety of other sites. So, when you click and open any particular category or sub-category display, you will find a ‘button’ or ‘box’ inviting you to become an ‘Affiliate’ for them. What this means is that if you click this ‘button’ or ‘box’, a ‘registration form’ will open up, where you have to fill up your particulars like name, postal & e-mail addresses, telephone nos., etc. in different boxes. Once you correctly fill up the form, click the box/button marked ‘Agree’ to abide by the terms and conditions of the seller’s ‘privacy policy’ (you can click the related button to open and read the policy) and click the ‘button’ or ‘box’ marked ‘submit’ at the bottom of the form; a message will appear, prompting you to see the E-Mail being sent to you in acknowledgement. You then open the said Mail in your ‘Inbox’ and click a ‘button’, link or ‘box’ you are directed to. A new window then opens, mentioning the ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ assigned to you for ‘logging in’ after opening the seller’s own website.

Now, where do you go from here? Dear friend, the whole idea is that you must first have your own Website, where you can place ‘banners’ or ‘text’ messages or what they call ‘html codes’ advertising their products or services. And how do you access these different publicity materials? - click on the button/box in a marketing site of your choice (say, ‘Clickbank’) related to the material of your choice, copy the displayed ‘code’ wordings and store them as a separate file in your PC in any appropriate manner. Then open your own website, copy the stored ‘code’ and paste them on a location within the site that seems most appealing. That’s it! The ‘code’ will automatically translate into a ‘banner’ or ‘text’ message, which is called a ‘link’ in your site to the advertiser or seller’s own website. Now every time someone opens your website and clicks on the ’link’, you have started a potential sale of the related product or service. When he clicks, a ‘form’ is displayed, to be filled up and ‘submitted’ if the clicker wishes to purchase the advertised product or service. Filling up this ‘form’ is called generation of a ‘lead’. The ‘form’ usually leads to other boxes or buttons to be clicked for ‘Online’ payment through ‘Paypal’ or other recognized payment media, including Credit Cards, of which the potential purchaser is already a member. On clicking these boxes/buttons as directed, the customer’s related Payment or Card A/C will be debited, and the advertised product or service is to be shipped at stated price and other charges as mentioned in the seller’s website. Depending on the policy adopted by a particular seller or advertiser, you get a commission on the sale price, either for every ‘lead’ or actual sale or both – the terms will be stated in the window which opens on the advertiser’s site after you click the ‘Affiliate’ button/box in the site.

‘CJ’ gives you the option to choose a number of sellers displayed on their site through a series of clicks on appropriate boxes/buttons. However, you are normally required to follow up with each individual seller through the E-Mail they send you in acknowledgement. They may even reject your application, if your bio-data (you filled up a ‘form’ remember?) doesn’t indicate you to be a good enough ‘publisher’ – that’s what you will be called.
Not a beginner’s piece of cake

As you can see, the entire process from the first click in the appropriate button/box in the site of ‘Commission Junction’ or whatever other site you choose, to the last click in the acknowledgement E-Mail sent to you by the advertiser or seller concerned is time-consuming. Besides, apart from the uncertainty of possible rejection of your ‘Affiliate’ application, your commission earnings depend on how many visitors you can entice to your own website and then click on the desired ‘links’ in your site and finally fill up the ‘purchase order’ Form on the seller’s site, to win you a commission on ‘lead’ generation basis. If the seller stipulates actual sales for eligibility to your commission, the ‘probability’ of a return gets that much smaller!

What do you have to do to raise the ‘probability’ or “up the ante”?

First, you have to ensure your Website is among the first 10 sites – preferably first 5 – on the first page of the screen which opens when a ‘key’ word or phrase relating to your site (ex: ‘telemarketing’, say, if the content you have put on your site basically deals with how to publicise a product or service through telephone calls to potential buyers) is typed on the ‘Search’ Box of the currently most used ‘Search Engines’ like ‘Google’ or ‘Yahoo’ and the ‘Search’ button is clicked. Very few searchers go beyond the first page which opens on ‘searching’ through a ‘Search Engine’ on the Internet, and the first page usually does not contain beyond 10 site buttons to be clicked.

But how do you manage to get your Website among the top 10 or 5 to be so listed? ‘Search Engines’ follow a complicated computerized or automated process of ‘page ranking’ any Website ‘submitted’ to them through a ‘registration’ process for a place in their pages, corresponding to particular ‘keywords’ or ‘phrases’. The ranking depends on:

a) What words you choose as the ‘domain’ name of your site
b) The attractiveness of the design of your Website in terms of colors, placement or arrangement of different components
c) Ease of navigation through the components
d) The attractiveness of ‘keywords’ or phrases you choose to place among the contents of your Website to attract visitors to really go through whatever you want them to listen to and be convinced (say, on the purchase of your own product or service) – the most optimum use of correct words or phrases is called ‘keyword optimisation’
e) The attractiveness and arrangement of the ‘links’ you place on the site to promote various products or services as an ‘affiliate’ publisher for an advertiser or seller (ex: too many ‘banners’ on too many products at the same time, arranged close to each other, may lead to confusion and abandoning your site)
f) And so many other factors

The combination of optimum choices on each of the above factors leads to what is called ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ (SEO). Google has specialized sites and softwares dealing with ‘keyword optimisation’ and ‘SEO’ generating all kinds of alternative ways, which may be quite heavy at least for a relatively inexperienced ‘Affiliate’ marketer.

Taking care of any one of the innumerable factors as above requires long experience and professional knowledge in Internet marketing – whether for your own products or services or for ‘affiliate’ marketing for other sellers. Even after you manage to get a top ranking in any ‘Search Engine’, you still have to be very clever in choosing the products or services you want to promote (that means choosing the right sellers with the right brand image in the market and the right sales pitch) and then arranging the ‘links’ borrowed from their sites in your own site, and then pray that everything turns the right way to entice tens and hundreds of visitors to your site and on to these links, and convert their ‘clicks’ on the link to actual ‘leads’ or ‘sales’! Although ‘Google’ and other ‘Search Engines’, as well as ‘marketplaces’ like ‘Commission Junction’ have wonderful ways to track and display statistics on ‘link-wise’ clicks, ‘leads’ and actual sales through your site at any particular time, and other helpful features on ranking and designing your site, do you feel courageous enough to launch into this jungle right now as a beginner in computer-based home business?

Moreover, you need to apply for a Website with your chosen ‘domain’ name, and that itself may be a costly affair! However, you can opt for what we call a free website or ‘blog’ by applying through ‘Google’ – the ‘domain’ name you choose is also registered free, but always end with “blogspot.com” (ex: www.dataentryjobs.blogspot.com). But you can then place only approved “text” messages through Google’s “Adsense” program at certain limited positions around the main content you place on the ”Blog”. You have here no independent choice in forming advertiser-publisher relationships as through ‘marketplace’ websites; “Google” has in place a computerized system which “reads” your “Blog” and places Ads which fit with the contents. You have to register with “Google Adsense” site for this, then copy-paste HTML ‘codes’ on limited sites of your ‘Blog’. Your earnings now depend on the ‘lead’ or ‘sale’ generating clicks on the ad ‘links placed

The most hyped Home Business – ‘AdSense’

‘Adsense’ is actually a part of Goolge’s ‘Pay per Click’ (PPC) program, and is linked to Google’s “Adwords” program for advertisers.

AdWords is Google's flagship advertising product and main source of revenue ($16.4 billion in 2007).. AdWords offers pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and site-targeted advertising for both text and banner ads. The AdWords program includes local, national, and international distribution. Google's text advertisements are short, consisting of one title line and two content text lines. Image ads can be one of several different Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) standard sizes.

Pay-Per-Click advertisements (PPC)

Advertisers specify the words that should trigger their ads and the maximum amount they are willing to pay per click. When a user searches Google's search engine on www.google.com (or the relevant local/national google server, e.g. www.google.fr for France), ads (also known as ‘creatives’ by Google) for relevant words are shown as "sponsored links" on the right side of the screen, and sometimes above the main search results.

The ordering of the paid listings depends on other advertisers' bids (PPC) and the "quality score" of all ads shown for a given search. The ‘quality score’ is calculated by historical click-through rates and the relevance of an advertiser's ad text and keywords, as determined by Google. The quality score is also used by Google to set the minimum bids for an advertiser's keywords.. The precise formula and meaning of relevance and its definition is in part secret to Google and whose parameters can be dynamically changed.

Google automatically determines the subject of pages and displays relevant ads based on the advertisers' keyword lists. AdSense publishers may select channels to help direct Google's ad placements on their pages, to better track performance of their ad units. There are many different types of ads you can run across Google's network, including text ads, image ads (banner ads), local business ads, mobile text ads, and in-page video ads.

The ‘Adwords’ link to ‘Adsense’ Income

Google uses its Internet search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted advertisement system may enroll through ‘AdWords’. ‘AdSense’ is the complementary program for publishers of such ads, and has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the advertisements are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the advertisements is often relevant to the website. Many websites use ‘AdSense’ to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small websites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and salespeople. To fill a website with advertisements that are relevant to the topics discussed, webmasters implement a brief script on the websites' pages. Websites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense website.

AdSense for search

A companion to the regular AdSense program, AdSense for search, allows website owners to place Google search boxes on their websites. When a user searches the Internet or the website with the search box, Google shares any advertising revenue it makes from those searches with the website owner. However the publisher is paid only if the advertisements on the page are clicked: AdSense does not pay publishers for mere searches.

Pay per click (PPC) is an Internet advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content websites, such as blogs, where advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on an advertisement to visit the advertisers' website. Advertisers bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. When a user types a keyword query matching an advertiser's keyword list, or views a webpage with relevant content, the advertisements may be displayed. Such advertisements are called a sponsored links or sponsored ads, and appear adjacent to or above the "natural" or organic results on search engine results pages, or anywhere a webmaster or blogger chooses on a content page.

Google’s “Cashcow” program offers complete training (through a CD) on maximizing Adsense earnings, plus a Website designed to be most effective for placing Adsense ads.

Multi Level Marketing (MLM)

"Let me tell you about an incredible ground-level business opportunity," and you are invited to a house or to lunch for "a discussion." Funny enough, you feel sick in your gut that there is some hidden agenda or deception. "Probably a multi-level marketing (MLM) organization," you think. Suppose it is? Should you trust your instincts? Is there anything wrong with MLM?

Ah! This is the latest Internet marketing storm which promises you overnight riches almost without doing anything than registering in one of the luring MLM Wesites at a one-time fee, and then just go on building a ‘downline’ of either actual purchasers of the product or service the site sells, or, what is more enticing, simply a chain of distributors who should in turn be encouraged to build their own ‘downlines’ in the same fashion – a typical ‘pyramid’ structure!

And what you are promised - and what you in turn promise to your ‘downline’ – is a percentage of the commission earning of each ‘downline’ member from actual sale of the product or service in question.

The catch is: Ultimately all people “upline” share the profits generated by the “downlines” below them, if, and only if, one or more of those downline guys manage to make some actual sales. In the process, the the ‘top’ guys corner the bulk of the cake from all ‘downline’ sales – but even these guys at the top may nor be making a decent living unless the sales at the bottom are comfortable enough

A pyramid scheme is a fraudulent system of making money which requires an endless stream of recruits for success. Recruits (a) give money to recruiters and (b) enlist fresh recruits to give them money. A pyramid scheme is called a pyramid scheme because of the shape of a pyramid: a three dimensional triangle. If a pyramid were started by a human being at the top with just 10 people beneath him, and 100 beneath them, and 1000 beneath them, etc., the pyramid would involve everyone on earth in just ten layers of people with one con man on top. The human pyramid would be about 60 feet high and the bottom layer would have more than 4.5 billion people!

In very short order, 10 recruiting 10 and so on would reach 10 billion, well in excess of the earth's population. If the entire population of earth were 5 billion and we all got involved in a pyramid scheme, the bottom layer would consist of about 90 percent of the planet, i.e., about 4.5 billion people. Thus, for 500 million people to be WINNERS, 4.5 billion must be LOSERS.
Plans that promise profits mainly for recruiting new members are illegal pyramid schemes. In legitimate multilevel marketing plans, profits come primarily from selling goods and services to consumers. New recruits give money to current members with the promise that they will receive money from future recruits.

All pyramids are doomed to collapse. That’s because it’s impossible to keep on getting fresh recruits who will pay to participate. Legitimate multilevel marketing plans only succeed if they offer products or services that customers want. All successful businesses depend on repeat sales. If there isn’t constant demand for the products or services, the business will fail.
Sales to other distributors don’t count. Legitimate multilevel marketing plans aren’t based on sales to distributors. Profits should come from sales that you and any distributors under you make to the end-users.

Be wary of big earnings claims. No one can guarantee how much you’ll make. That depends on how hard you work and whether consumers like your products or services.
The more frightening sophistication in this field in recent times is the lure of the promoter promising to build your downline himself, or offering a brand new website to use for placing necessary ad links yourself, as soon as you ‘buy yourself’ into their Scheme for a one-time price! This is a sure sign that it is a scam. If the product is worth a darn, the company will make its money selling the product. No program that requires you to buy into the program is real, meaning that all are scams.

Ad Posting

Now here’s a simple program that also involves placing Ads, but not on your own site – all kinds of other ‘classified ad posting’ sites, Blogs, & Forums. Here you often get paid for posting the ad alone – no clicks and no ‘sales’ required. As already mentioned earlier, many ‘work-at-home’ job providers often disguise ‘Ad posting’ jobs by naming them ‘foorm filling’ jobs or even ‘Data Entry’ Jobs, or ‘typing’ jobs. The ‘typing’ or ‘form filling’ involved is actually typing the Ad text provided to you in the box provided for that purpose on a classified site, apart from first filling your own personal details (Name, Address, E-Mail, Phone No., your chosen ‘Username/User ID’ and‘Password’, etc., some of which are optional, into a ‘Registration Form’, after clicking the ‘New User’, ‘Register’, ‘Sign In’ or ‘Sign Up’ or similar button on the classified site, usually at the top left or right. Clicking any of these buttons opens a new page where you have to fill up the form and then click ‘Submit’, ‘Register’ or some other appropriate button. Nowadays there are automated ‘form’filling’ software like Rooform, whose basic version you can down;oad for free, fill up standar repetitive details and save. When you go to a classified site and open the ‘registration’ form, you can click on a name you filled in the ‘roboform’ software and the standard details entered will be automatically filled up if the items to be filled are properly described in ‘Roboform’.

After registering, you will normally get an e-mail at the Mail address you mentioned in the form, where you need to click an ‘activation’ link. After this, you can return to the site and click a ‘Log in’ button, to open various options for posting various ad materials, starting with clicking ‘Post Ad’, ‘Add Ad’, ‘New Ad’, ‘Post Classified’, ‘Place an Ad’ or similar button, then selecting one by one the most appropriate ‘category’ or ‘head’ and ‘sub category’ or ‘sub-head’ for your ad (like category ‘Jobs’, sub category ‘work-at-home’, if your ad promises to provide such jobs), next filling boxes marked ‘Ad Title’ and then ‘Ad Content/Description’ or similar appropriate names. To do this, you must first store the Ad Title and Ad Matter in a suitable MS Word file. When you want to fill up the relevant boxes in a classified ad site, you must open this Word file, copy the Title and ‘description/content’ and paste them in the appropriate boxes in the ad site by pasting; remember, your ad site won’t have a ‘copy’ or ‘paste’ icon or button on the toolbar. So, for copying any matter from the site, you need to highlight that portion, then press ‘Cntrl’ and ‘C’ buttons together on your Keyboard. Conversely, if you want to paste a copied matter in a box in the ad site, you must place the cursor at the start of this box, then press ‘Ctrl’ and ‘V’ buttons on your Keyboard simultaneously

After getting registered with a provider like ‘Global Info Service’ through their website , you will usually be provided with an ‘username’ and ‘password’ to access the provider’s ‘Member's Area’, which will display thousands of Ad Texts of different companies. These texts have to be simply copied and then pasted on proper locations in Free classified websites, Blogs & Forums. But there are sites which give you a single Ad matter to post, and hen you can enter the text of that Ad also into ‘Roboform’ for automatic filling up. Normally, you can post upto 5 ads in the same classified site, but their titles and content should be different.

Now, there are some stipulations you have to abide by. For ex, below are the stipulations by ‘Global Info Service’:

Every Month you have to post a minimum no. of Ads in order to be paid. This depends on the Plan you select.
For Executive Plan -
Minimum of 100 Ads, maximum 1500
Payment per Ad: Rs. 5
For Professional Plan -
Minimum of 100 Ads, maximum 5000.
Payment per Ad: Rs. 15

As for other types of data entry work, here also, the higher the payment, the greater the workload, with each ad text being longer

Now, the question is, will the above payment be made only if an ad posted gets clicked by a visitor to the Website or Classified Ad site, or, worse, only if the click converts to a sale?

Unlike ‘affiliate’ programs, ‘Ad Posting’ jobs may or may not require any further fortuitous actions as mentioned. ‘Global Info Service’ pays (or promises to pay) merely for posting as ‘regular’ earning, irrespective of whether it is clicked by someone or any sale is generated through it. Over and above, this BPO gives additional income if a posted Ad is clicked or generated a sale is through it, depending on the planchosen. If you workunder Executive Plan, you will be paid Rs.25 per click & Rs.300 per sale. In case you work under Professional Plan, you will be paid Rs.50 per click & Rs.500 per sale.

But very often, though the Website of the Job provider talks only of posting or placing the ad matter they provide on different sites, when you register for a fee, what they send your are instructions including stipulation that your payments will be linked to the clicks or ‘leads’ generated vide your ads! The greatest deceit now in vogue is to cloak this conditional payment as simple ‘Form Filling’work. There’s this site called “allinternet.biz” or http://www.emailnetjobs.com which describes the job as simple sending and processing of E-Mails, but ends up with the stipulation of your applying to ‘Clickbank’ and other Internet market sites, become their approved members, then send E-Mails to prospective buyers by sending your pre-written enticing E-mails to various persons placing related ads on different Websites, along with a‘code’ or ‘link’ you get from the Internet marketing site. If the ad poster clicks on the link in this Mail and then proceeds to complete the related purchase transaction, you get a commission payment! Do you think this can even remotely be called a simple E-Mail sending or processing job with no other strings attached? There are other sites which play similar hide-and-seek with unwary and eager persons looking for simple home jobs on their PCs. Wonder of wonders! If you make a ‘google’ search with the phrase “Paid to Post Ads Jobs”, the very topmost site displayed is www.paying2mail.com, which plays exactly the same trick as http://www.emailnetjobs.com, but for a greater registration fee of Rs. 799, holding out the bait of earning Rs. 25,000/- per day. Then there is the site www.imperialbiz.com/ Payment is linked to clicks by ad visitors on the AD, followed by an auto-generated E-Mail to your Mailbox. These Mail addresses need to be filled up by you in a form you can access in the site’s ’Member’s Area’ after logging in with your Username and Password. The site promises refund of registration fee if no clicks are generated on ads posted within a month, provided you have tried sincerely. Unfortunately, when I posted Ads in more than 70 sites within 3 weeks and then asked for the refund as not a single auto-generated E-Mail was received, do you know what they replied: The initial fee was non-refundable, and they would only be kind enough not to charge further monthly fees!

What these sites deliver to you for anything between Rs. 250 – 600 one-time registration/administrative fee is simply INFORMATION on various seller websites like ‘CJ’ or ‘Clickbank’ and how to become their affiliates to post ads for them in return for ‘pay-per-click’ or even actual ‘sales’ through sales, that we discussed in the ‘Affiliate’ programs under Part II (‘Affiliate Marketing’). In fact, the info is more or less a copy of what the so-called much-advertised cash-generating ‘Google Cashkey’ gives you, but without the free website they give as a bounus. However, as a ‘consolation’, these sites do give you info on various free ‘survey’ sites and list of classified websites where you can post ads for ‘Affiliate Marketing’. If you send me an e-mail at the address below, I will promptly send you their entire material absolutely for free, if it is of any use to you, or at least to stop them fooling you with their false and misleading promises which suppress and window-dress the actual material they deliver:
aparna123.dutta@gmail.com

Your PC must have ‘Outlook Express’ installed if you want to e-mail me directly by clicking on the link above; otherwise, simply use your own e-mail site and the address above.

But these sites are again promoted by a site called ‘Netjobs4all’ (put www. before this name and “.com” after, to open the site), which promises to provide all kinds of ‘data entry’ jobs free of any registration or one-time cost, ostensibly for providing you ‘free website’, cover administrative costs, etc.

Back to saner talk. To get more information on other ‘Ad Posting’ job providers, just enter the words “Ad Posting” in Google, Yahoo or other ‘Search Box’ and click ‘Search’, to open a host of Website references to be clicked one by one for further details and exercise your choice.

Content Writing in (Community) ‘Forums’

This job involves writing on various topics in various Forums, which pay you for each article posted. Some of these forums specify the topics, while some invite you to be a ‘freelancer’ and write whatever you please, provided it passes their ‘quality’ standards (if it doesn’t, you are rejected, i.e, you are advised that you can no longer contribute). Some forums, like the one I am posting this article in, are content to let you copy the contents of your subject from one or more forums and paste them in any order to make a coherent article of your choice – of course, in a sense, your choice is restricted to the ‘threads’ or topics you find posted already in their Forum – but there are so many ‘threads’ to choose from that the choice is practically unlimited.
Only one word of caution: Even if you simply copy-paste by sourcing different website contents, in order to be eligible for payment, your postings should be original as far as the particular Forum is concerned. That means you need to at least glance through the posts under a particular ‘thread’ before you go off in a hurry to post your own one! Besides, although theoretically unlimited, the ‘thread’-wise topics mostly deal with Internet-related subjects – how far are you familiar with such topics?

Paid to Read Email Programs (PTR)

PTR sites will pay you to receive and read advertisers emails and click on a link.
When you sign up for a PTR site you will be able to choose the categories that interest you, and the emails you receive will respond to those categories. Of course, the number of emails you receive will depend on the type and number of categories you have chosen.
Some sites will send you more than 50 emails a day, and some might only send 1 or 2 a week. Some mails will include one link and some may include as many as 10 links.

When you click on a link in an email, you will be taken to a framed web page. One frame will show the amount of time you will need to visit the page and the amount of money or points you are credited. The other frame will show the advertisement. The timers may vary from 5 to 50 seconds.

PTR sites may also include all or some of the following features:- Paid-to-Click (PTC) where you are credited for clicking on banners and viewing the sites that are shown for as long as the timer runs.- Autosurf where you are shown one site after the other. You must click on a turing number after each site is shown.- Paid-to-Click Contests where you not only get credited for clicking on banners, but you might also win a certain prize after a number of banners have been clicked.- Paid-to-Promote where you are credited for sending traffic to a certain page.- Paid-to-SignUp where you are paid to sign up for free offers and other PTR sites. - Games and Contests.- Search engines where you are paid for making valid searches if your country is approved to search.

Different sites have different payouts. Some offer no-minimum payout and some have payouts as high as $30, i.e, the minimum earning you must accumulate before claiming the same. Some of them are faster earners than others, meaning that some may take quite a long time to reach payout level. Some sites offer ‘points’ as a reward, which can be exchanged for cash while others only let you exchange them for advertising on their sites or through ‘traffic exchange’, which is a site which gives you the service of displaying your Ads and site information when you register with them at stated one-time price and further renewal fees of price per Ad placed.

Before you sign up for any site, you should visit forums and do a research of the site as there are always a few who get a site to scam its members and never pay.

A little more on PTC sites. These rarely send emails to their members. Members have to go to the program's site and click on banners or links.
Members of PTC programs usually have to view ads while a timer is running and then click on a turing number to be credited.

Some PTC sites are implementing PTP (Paid to Promote). This means that you promote a web page (usually the site's home page) and get paid for the amount of visitors you get. The PTP ratio in this sites is usually $ 0.20 CPM. That means that you get 20 cents when you get 1000 visitors to the site.

These sites usually offer ‘Click or Traffic Exchange’ where you can promote your links to other sites. Usually these sites don't take up as much time as PTR sites, but they are also slower earners. On the other hand, PTC sites tend to have lower payouts than PTR sites.

You must also open a ‘Paypal’ or ‘E-gold’ or other account for receiving payments

Lately, a new crop of PTC sites has turned up. They are called "Bux sites" because most of them have these letters in their names. Many of these sites don't pay or don't last very long because it's very difficult to pay those rates and the sites are not sustainable. They pay you 1c ($0.01) a click and usually 1c for your referral’s click. Now, what’s that? Simple – when someone you refer to enlist on any PTC site, and he actually does so, you get the stated additional earning for every click he attempts. In fact, since most PTR mails or PTC banners require viewing each one for at least 20 seconds, and the usual payout is 1c or even less, you can easily see that your earnings per even an 8-hour working day doesn’t add up to much, unless you manage to involve a large no. of ‘referrals’ to join you on the same site. The alternative is, you sit simultaneously on 3 to 4 PCs, clicking and opening Mails or banners one after another in succession on different PCs, even as the previous ones are still to cross the mimimum viewing time

But beware of scams – there are plenty! There are sites which are either not paying member and/or even ask for joining money, have an extremely bad support (if at all) or being outright scams.

There are literally thousands of ‘Paid To Read’ Email Programs on the Interet. As with any other business opportunity, some are legitimate while others are nothing more then scams. The difference with ‘Paid to Read’ Email Programs is they are free to join and you are not aware of the scam until it is time to cash out or request your payment. Once you do request payment you either simply are not paid or your account is terminated. Some PTR sites will only pay you a percentage of what you have actually earned and other will not pay you at all.How to recognize Scam Sites?- There are many sites out there which promise emails worth the likes of $5, $50 or $100 and upwards. DO NOT join any of these sites. These are ridiculous attempts to take your money and you will never see a penny. EXCEPTIONS are so called "Redemption Only" sites where you can redeem your money for advertising only.- Check the advertising price to see if sites selling ads underprice. If for example, the site has 100 members and an email to all costs only $2 for a $10 link, you can clearly see that the site is underselling advertising. 100 members x $10 per member = $1,000. Therefore, the actual cost of the advertisement without taking into account the referral commission, comes to $1,000. If a site sells this link for only $2, the site is sustaining a loss of $988 per advertisement sold. This is only an example but please note that there are sites selling $10, $20 and even links worth hundreds of dollars for just $2 - $3. Basic mathematical skills will show you that such sites are totally unsustainable and therefore, short lived.

You can check out with a no. of websites on which PTR/PTC sites are scams and which are not., like http://www.squidoo.com/ptc-scam-list, http://www.scamfreezone.org/ptr.htm, etc.

Personally, I would put ‘clix sense’ at the top of the genuine sites. It pays upto 1c per click with a typical 60 second minimum viewing time; however, in order to be able to access enough PTCs at this site, you need to upgrade from ‘free’ to paid membership – otherwise, uou get upto only about 5 PTC opportunities on an average day

There are very few sites which offer sufficient no. of daily mails to earn enough, even if you are willing to spend hours at this job. Usually, you have to upgrade by clicking ‘Upgrade’ or some other appropriate link or ‘button’ and paying an average of $5 per ‘upgrade’ at each siteHowever, here are a no. of PTR/PTC sites which appear to be scam-free:

ALL THE WORK-AT-HOME JOBS: SCAM-SCANNED

Online Surveys
Your opinion is very important.
Every company likes to know what people think of their product, what they like and dislike, what they are looking for when they shop, which product or service they prefer. They need your opinion to make better products and services, and to make more money.
These companies pay online researchers to carry out surveys for them, in order to gauge the market for their products or services in various market segments. . And the researchers pay you to answer those surveys.
‘Market segment’ refers to dividing the market into segments according to age, income, occupation, geographical territory, etc. The researcher therefore has to first find out your ‘demographic’ profile, to decide on whether you ‘fit the bill’ with respect to a particular ‘market segment’ the product or service targets. Ex: The market for ‘Pop songs’ would obviously concentrate on the young rather than the old, going by age-wise classification. Furhter segmentations that may be applicable in this case are by income or occupation, etc. (middle class and above)
There are many online surveys companies. Some of them send many surveys monthly, and some may send one or less a month. Some pay cash and some give you points to trade for merchandise or even enter your name in a contest when you answer a survey.
When you sign up for these companies and they have a survey that fits your demographic information, they usually send a short screening survey to confirm that your opinion is useful to them for that particular study. If you are accepted, the actual study begins, and it might take as long as one hour to finish. This study might be in the form of a questionnaire, a group board, or a chat session. The questions are mostly in terms of the extent of your awareness or knowledge of the product, and your rating of various characteristics or attributes of the product – either existing or to be launched in the market – in terms of your likes and dislikes. The ‘surveys’ are so designed that if you try to avoid honest answers and hurriedly choose answers at random, you will caught contradicting yourself in cleverly disguised successive questions – once you answer a particular question, the computer screen changes to a new page, and there is no way you can refresh your memory by cross-reference. Only if you actually follow your own tastes will such contradictions not arise, as otherwise you are unlikely to get further surveys from the same provider researcher. ‘Don’t know’ and ‘Prefer not to answer’ are also options you can choose for many questions.
Some companies accept international members, while others only accept members from certain countries. Some companies pay referral commissions and some don't. Payments are mainly through ‘Paypal’, ‘E-gold’ or internationally known money transfer agencies. In an earlier lesson, we have already discussed how to operate a ‘Paypal’ account.
Remember to always read the Terms of Service and FAQs before signing up for any company to avoid nasty surprises later on.
Trouble is, there are very few companies or survey agencies who are open to Indians. Besides, once you complete a survey with a particular agency, the next one may be a long time coming! But the pay per survey is good – so the trick is to sign up with as many survey providers as possible – many agencies give a bonus just for signing up! Input the phrase ‘Paid Surveys’ in ‘Google’ or other ‘Search Box’, and you will find many websites providing ‘surveys’. Open these sites and go through their terms and conditions, especially the ‘pay’, choose the ones which appeal to you, and ‘register’ by clicking the appropriate button on the site and filling up the ‘Forms’ which are then displayed
.
